Last night we had another successful “Monday in the Park” in Faribault. Despite the cool, somewhat rainy weather, over 50 people gathered to socialize, play games with kids, share some food, and just enjoy time together. We are continuing to meet every Monday evening in June and July from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the park behind the Faribault Middle School. While the focus is on socializing and English practice for women and children, all are welcome to come meet some new friends. Join us if you can!
My name is Ayan. I came to America in 2001. I have lived in Faribault for one year. I am from Somalia. I like Faribault because it is very quiet and the rent is not expensive. I like to help the Somali women and children.
My name is Siyat Guhad. I am from Somalia. I came to Faribault 5 years ago as a refugee. Faribault is a great city and has great people. I am a neighborhood leader and like helping my community in integrating or assimilating with the greater Rice County community. I also like educating my community about where they can get access to various resources that are available in Rice County.
We are in high gear to get our neighborhood leaders in place. Several of the interviews have taken place, with several more happening this week. At this point we are hopeful that we will have at least 2 leaders from Viking Terrace, 2 from the Jefferson Area, and 2 from Greenvale Place (Northfield). We also hope to have 2-4 from the Four Seasons area, and we’re still looking for leaders from Hulet (Faribault). If you know people who live in these neighborhoods who have natural leadership skills, send them our way!
