General

Buckham Memorial Library - in Faribault, MN. The library provides books, videos, storytime (in several languages), computer access, online databases, and friendly librarians

Northfield Public Library - The library has books, videos, storytime, computer access and other electronic resources , nice librarians, and Booker!

Rice County Social Services - The Social Service Department provides community supported social services and financial assistance for eligible people to promote their dignity and independence.

Three Rivers Community Action, Inc. - Three Rivers Community Action, Inc., incorporated in 1966, is a non-profit human service organization with a mission “to work with community partners to address basic human needs of people in our service area, thereby improving the quality of life of the individual, family and community.”

Bridge To Benefits -  while this isn’t a service specific to Rice County, this website allows families to determine if they are eligible for public benefits (most of which are administered through county offices).  The site takes into account family size, income and documentation status without requiring families to disclose any identifying data.  It also gives contact information for the agencies that administer the specific benefits for which a family is eligible.

Adult ESL tutoring at Carleton College - There is ESL tutoring in small groups every Thursday from 7-8:30 pm in Willis Hall, room 205.

Volunteer Interpreter Service - Carleton College provides students to be interpreters when requested.

The Welcome Center - The Welcome Center is located at 24 Division Street W in Faribault, MN. Directed by Bob Kell and providing both Somali and Spanish interpreters, the Welcome Center is an assistance and referral center for new immigrants and other residents of Faribault, MN and the surrounding area. Early Childhood Education

Faribault School District, McKinley Early Childhood Center - McKinley Early Childhood Center offers a wide variety of programs for ALL families with children birth to 5 years old in the Faribault school district. ECFE has classes for parents and their children that meet weekly at convenient times during the day and evenings. McKinley Preschool is for children 3 & 4 years old who need an extra boost to be ready for Kindergarten next fall. Early Childhood Special Education (EC:SE) provides support and education to children with identified special needs.

Head Start - Run by Three Rivers Community Action, Inc. in both Faribault and Northfield, Head Start is a free preschool program focused on parent and child development.  Educational activities, lunch and snacks, field trips, and much more are provided by caring and professional staff.

Northfield Early Childhood Initiative - The mission of the Northfield ECIC is to educate, activate and mobilize the entire community on the issues affecting young children from birth to age five. ECIC is a community-based campaign to assure that every young child in the Northfield community has the support they need to have a solid foundation for life.

Alina Medical Clinic - Northfield - general health,

Cannon Valley Clinic - Faribault - general health plus specialties such as allergies, cardiology, neurology, etc.

HealthFinders Collaborative - Call (507) 330-4031 or (507) 663-0134 to make an appointment at the free primary care health clinic, which is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-8:30 pm.  The clinic is held at Little Prarie United Methodist Church, located on County Road 88/130th Street in Dundas, MN.  HealthFinders provides educationand medical support for chronic conditions through their diabetes program and the Pura Vida program focused on weight loss and nutrition.  HealthFinders also provides financial assistance with prescription medicines to low-income and uninsured patients.

Northfield Hospital - The Northfield Hospital is located at 2000 North Avenue in Northfield, MN.  You can call at (507) 646-7545 or (507) 646-1069 for the Spanish interpreter.

Rice County Public Health- deals with health emergencies, hosts programs for family and parent health, gives vaccines, hosts health education, provides a nursing service, and assists with long-term care.

Youth

Chicas Latinas - a youth group for middle school-aged Latina girls in Faribault, run through the Community Corrections Center. The group meets twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday afternoons in the STOPS room at the Faribault Middle School. On Wednesdays, Carleton College students hang out with the girls, doing fun activities and encouraging them to go on to higher education.

Free Pops - a free after-school program run by the Faribault Park and Rec, the River Bend Nature Center, and

Girl Scouts - There is a girl Scouts troop in both Northfield and Faribault.

Northfield Union of Youth/the Key -Membership in the Northfield Union of Youth is free to all Northfield youth from ages 12-20 years.  Programs and activities include an art group, a mentoring program with adults in the community called Main Street Mentors, reading and writing workshops, support for entrepreneurial projects, a youth magazine, a cooking class, a photo club, a garden club, Ultimate Frisbee, a unicycle club, a radio show, and a Hip Hop night.  The Key is located 303 South Water Street in Northfield.  The phone number is (507) 663-0715, and the Key is open from 3:30-10:00 pm on Monday through Friday and from 5:00-10:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
